Three ACPS principals out of the building as board crisis talk builds
Monticello, Baker-Butler and Woodbrook principals are on extended leave; more than 100 Monticello students walked out Sept. 30 in support of Principal Beth Costa.

Albemarle County Public Schools told families that Monticello High Principal Dr. Beth Costa, Baker-Butler Principal John Wheeler and Woodbrook Principal Christie Isaiah are "out of the building for an extended period," without stating reasons or return dates.
Spokesperson Jason Grant said leave is a status, not discipline, and denied links to the Swiney and Clark cases. On Sept. 30, more than 100 Monticello students walked out in support of Costa; retired principal Rick Vrhovac is serving in an acting role.
Board member describes division in 'crisis'
Board member Jim Dillenbeck told a Rio town hall that about 15 employees had gone on leave in about 30 days and called the division in "crisis," the Daily Progress reported Oct. 3.
David Storm was appointed Sept. 24 to an at-large seat and is expected to be sworn in at the next board meeting Oct. 8. The start time for that meeting has conflicted across listings and is omitted here.
Separately this week, Charlottesville City Schools marks Farm to School Week Oct. 5–9, and the CCS board holds a budget work session at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in the CHS Media Center. PVCC hosts a free NextGen Skilled Trades Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.
